Morning in Hendersonville

We are in a lakeside cabin complex. Ours looks over the lake, but mom is sleeping in that room so I wont go to see the balcony yet. Awoke to geese honking. I like that. I went up to the car to get the coffee maker (I brought mine in self defense, in case one of our lodgings does not provide one, as I am an addict for coffee. It is a single cup maker that doesn’t need filters. There is a multi-cup one here, but I just find it easier to use mine) to find a chill in the air and dewy grass.

The ride yesterday was good, but long. We left at 9:20 and arrived at the restaurant at 7:05. We stopped pretty often, to pee, to stretch our legs, to get gas. The scenery was beautiful, the leaves in varying shades of greens, yellows, oranges, reds. Like driving through a candy bowl. The pictures show it as being greener than in person. There is quite a bit of pine mixed in with the deciduous, which gives it a nice contrast, the dark green spikes of the pines against the colored bubbles of the tree crowns. There was a massive traffic jam on the northbound side in West Virginia, which was caused by an accident. Cars and trucks were stopped and people were standing near their cars chatting with each other. I felt bad for them, and glad it was on that side of the road, not mine.

We got to the Asheville area where Route 26 was closed and we had to detour through the small crowded streets of a local town. Mom coined the term ‘Detourious’. There were still lots of tree trunks washed up against trees that were still standing next to the river. There wasnt much else you could see from the highway. The part of Route 40 we took looked brand new, and maybe it was.

We went directly to the restaurant to meet my uncle. So good to see him. We caught up a bit, as none of us had seen the other for at least two years. Food was delicious. The waitress was too perky for my taste, but she grew on me by the end of the meal. One shouldn’t quibble on style, if the service is good. We said goodnight with promises to meet today, and I’m looking forward to seeing Bonnie, and their new house.

  1. CHRIS !
I envy you traveling alone with your MOM . I have three sisters and rarely got to be alone with Mom and certainly not on a cross country adventure! I did get to be alone with my Mom in her later years when she was too weak to travel . Enjoy every second ! Thank you for sharing your journey, ladies! Glad you are not in Chris’s old van. Love the blue replacement! Victoria
